All Photo Tours
Why I run these trips:
I only put a tour on the calendar if it’s a location and a subject that I am genuinely excited to photograph myself. This job takes up far too much time, patience, and early mornings to just go through the motions.
But I want to be entirely transparent about how these trips work: your photography always comes first.
I always bring my own camera gear along, and I’ll certainly be out there shooting alongside you when the time is right. But my camera stays in the bag until I am 100% certain that everyone in the group is set up, happy, and sorted. I’m not there to hog the best vantage point or build my own portfolio at your expense. My job is to use my experience photographing these animals to get us into the right spots, and then spend my time making sure you have the space, the angles, and the settings you need to get the image.
What we will work on:
-
You may know your gear inside out, but handling it under pressure in the field is a different beast entirely. The difference between catching a sudden piece of action and missing it completely is usually a matter of seconds. I am not there to remap your buttons or mess with your muscle memory - that only leads to fumbled shots. Instead, if you need it, we will focus on getting the exact settings dialled in for the specific situation in front of us. The goal is simply to make your camera handling purely instinctive, so you can adapt to the wildlife smoothly without your eye ever leaving the viewfinder.
-
We can't control the weather - whether that’s a tropical downpour abroad or a damp & grey conditions in Scotland. If you wait for the "perfect" light in wildlife photography, you could be waiting a very long time. Instead, we’ll look at how to handle whatever we are given on the day. We’ll focus on the practical ways to solve tough situations - like managing noise in low light, shooting high-key in heavy overcast weather, or dealing with harsh midday sun - so you can turn less-than-ideal conditions into your most creative shots.
-
Once you can consistently land a sharp focus, the challenge shifts to creating an image with a real sense of place. We’ll work on moving past the basic "animal on a stick" snapshots. Out in the field, we’ll look at how to consciously use the environment to tell a story - whether that's utilising wider focal lengths to bring the landscape into frame, reading the background, or choosing angles that capture genuine motion and action.
-
Whether we are tracking on foot, sitting in a hide, or working from a vehicle, the wildlife’s welfare always comes first. We’ll focus on reading animal body language and spotting the quiet signs of disturbance. Learning to read these behavioural cues doesn't just protect the animals; it's the exact skill that allows you to predict their next move and catch the action before it happens.
-
As and when time and energy allow throughout the trip, we’ll sit down back at base to look at the processing side of things and catch up on image reviews. Rather than forcing you into a rigid tutorial, we’ll focus entirely on a "less is more" approach built around your own photos. We'll use your files for direct photo reviews and look at practical editing tips and tricks - like cleanly handling low-light noise or balancing tricky exposures. I can always run you through my personal workflow if you are curious, but the priority is always going to be your own photos.
Below, you’ll find the current line-up of upcoming photo tours. Because I strictly cap the numbers on every trip to ensure everyone gets proper 1-on-1 time, spaces do tend to go quite far in advance.
