The Sierra de Andújar is the main stronghold for the Iberian lynx, but getting a photo takes a massive amount of patience. Because this trip is almost entirely based in fixed hides, we won't be out actively tracking the wildlife - we are waiting for it to come to us.
To give us the best chance, I have booked four full days in private, specialist photography hides right in prime lynx territory. We will head into the hides early in the morning and late in the afternoon when the cats are most active, returning to base to rest and look over our images when the midday sun gets too harsh for shooting.
Mid-week, we will take a one-day break from the hides to explore the wider natural park by vehicle and on foot. We'll look for otters along the riverbanks and scan the valleys for Spanish imperial eagles. Because I keep the group size limited to a maximum of six, I will be right there with you in the hides to help with camera settings, compositional tips, and hide etiquette.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival – Pick-up from Madrid Airport, a supermarket stop to grab your preferred drinks and personal hide snacks, followed by a home-cooked welcome dinner at our lodge.
Days 2 & 3: Private Lynx Hides – Split-day hide sessions at dawn and dusk. We return to base during the flat midday light for a fresh cooked lunch and downtime.
Day 4: River Tracking & Birds of Prey – A complete change of pace. A one-day break from the hides to explore the natural park on foot and by vehicle, targeting riverside otters, birdlife and eagles.
Days 5 & 6: Private Lynx Hides – Back into our fixed hide routine for focused morning and evening sessions to solidify your lynx portfolio.
Day 8: Departure – An early breakfast at the accommodation before transferring back to Madrid Airport.

Meals – Full board coverage. This includes a self-service breakfast and dinner packed to take into the hides, alongside a hearty, cooked lunch during our midday downtime.
Field Tuition – Complete 1-on-1 camera support from me to help you master hide techniques, exposure management, and composition.
Image Reviews – Informal photo feedback and editing discussions back at our accommodation during our midday rest periods.
Pre-Trip Prep – A group video call one month before departure to discuss gear selection, hide etiquette, and travel logistics.
What’s Not Included:
Flights – International flights to and from Madrid Airport.
Personal Snacks – Any snacks, soft drinks, or alcoholic beverages you wish to buy during our supermarket stop for your time in the hides.
Insurance – Mandatory personal travel and photographic equipment insurance.
Gear – Personal camera bodies, lenses, and outdoor clothing.
What You Will Need:
Camera Gear
Camera Body – Your preferred DSLR or mirrorless camera body. While a bridge camera can work for most shots, you may struggle with low-light and quick-paced action photography.
Telephoto Zoom – A versatile telephoto zoom lens (such as a 100-400mm or 200-600mm) is absolutely ideal for this trip. Lynx can move rapidly across varying distances in front of the hides.
Support – A sturdy tripod or a reliable monopod.
Media & Power – Plenty of fast memory cards and spare batteries. We can be in the hides for long stretches.
Storage (Optional) – A laptop and external hard drives for backing up your files daily and participating in our informal image reviews.
Field Clothing
Sun Protection & Layers – Lightweight, breathable clothing for the hot daytime temperatures, with a layer or two if the mornings & evenings end up cooler than expected.
Muted Tones – Earth-toned clothing (greens, browns, or khakis) for our mid-week exploration day to ensure we blend into the environment while tracking otters and eagles on foot.
Mosquito Protection: A reliable insect repellent paired with lightweight, breathable, long-sleeved tops and trousers.
Fitness & Suitability
Hide Discipline – The core of this trip involves sitting completely still and quiet inside small photography hides for several hours at a time. This requires a good level of mental patience and the ability to remain quiet to avoid alerting the wildlife.
Terrain Stability – Our exploration day involves light-to-moderate walking on uneven, sandy, or rocky paths through the natural park. You should be comfortable carrying your own camera bag and support system over short distances on foot.
