Join me in North Wales for a varied wildlife photography experience across hills, woodland and open valleys, working with natural light and ever-changing landscapes.
We’ll look for black grouse in upland habitats, spend time with red squirrels in woodland, and photograph red kites. We’ll also seek out the iconic mountain goats of the old quarry landscapes and the hardy Carneddau ponies, with plenty of other photographic opportunities along the way.
With small group sizes and plenty of guidance on fieldcraft, composition, and camera settings, this trip is ideal for photographers wanting to develop their skills while exploring one of the most wildlife-rich regions in the UK.

What you will need:
Your favourite camera (preferably mirrorless or DSLR, although a bridge camera will also work).
A lens with focal length of 500mm or above.
A zoom lens of 70-200mm/100-400mm or similar.
A wide angle zoom lens, 24-70mm or similar.
Tripod or monopod can be useful, depending on how you like to photograph.
Spare batteries, SD cards and anything else you would find useful for multi-day photography
Laptop to review images and external hard drives to back up images.
Outdoor clothing with layers. Weather at this time of year can be temperamental so please come prepared for any eventuality.

Itinerary
The exact days of the itinerary will depend on the weather, but will likely be as follows:
Day 1: Arrival at the accommodation at 6pm, group dinner and chat about the next few days.
Day 2 to Day 4:
Morning photographing Red Squirrels, afternoon photographing Carneddau Ponies
Early start photographing Black Grouse, back to accommodation for a photo review, afternoon with Red Kites
All day out to photograph Mountain Goats.
Day 5: Breakfast and then leave accommodation by 10am.
Dates: 5th April to 9th April 2027.
Group Size: 3.
Fitness Level Required: A fairly good level of fitness will be needed. It can be a steep climb up to find the Mountain Goats & Carneddau Ponies.
Cost: £1,000 per person.
Deposit: A non-refundable £200 deposit required at time of booking.
